Located in Australia's other great coffee city, our roastery and specialty brew bars sit right in the heart of some of Sydney's most iconic destinations. From Bondi to Brookvale and a couple in between, we strive to roast and brew consistently delicious coffee and enjoy being part of a daily experience, in memorable surroundings. We believe great specialty coffee should be great, all the time, and with that comes the high expectations we impose upon ourselves to keep striving, keep learning and create a culture of excellence within our coffee community. Skittle Lane was founded in 2015, when we had enough knowledge to know we were ready for the challenge, yet not enough experience to redirect us to choose an easier path, yet the path has been incredibly rewarding. The first Skittle Lane is our heritage listed King St store, in the soul of the CBD. It was this store that made us want to keep going, and 10 years later we now have 5 stores and have recently opened a new roastery in Brookvale to support our growing small business. Prior to our Brookvale roastery opening, Dean roasted from our small espresso bar in Bondi, where the community grew to love and involve themselves in the coffee roasting process. This is the culture we hope to bring to Brookvale, where our P25 sits in the middle of our warehouse, and roasting and production simultaneously takes place within the brew bar and retail areas.

All of our coffee is ethically sourced from small producers and sustainable farms, which we roast in our Brookvale brew bar and roastery. We buy our green coffee from B Corporation certified importers and we ensure every coffee can be traced back to origin. To be classed as specialty coffee, the green bean must be scored by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) as over 80 points, out of a possible 100 points. A higher score indicates exceptional quality and flavour, which is where the specialty coffee industry focuses their attention and we choose to buy our green coffee from.

Over the past few years, the specialty coffee industry, as a whole, has faced significant challenges. From environmental factors leading to reduced yields, to severe economic instability, to a huge global uptick in popularity and consumption, the specialty coffee industry has seen the green coffee we regularly buy, double in cost over the past 6 months alone. Put simply, quality specialty coffee is limited in supply and much more expensive than it was a number of years ago. There is a great deal of work that goes into securing the coffee we bring to our customers at a fair and reasonable price, whilst honouring the farmers and suppliers that grow this beautiful product for us and our customers to enjoy.

With all the disruptors aimed at the specialty coffee industry of late, we made the easy decision to never compromise on the quality of the coffee we source, roast and brew everyday. We won't ever compromise on quality specialty coffee, in an attempt to sell cheaper roasted coffee to our community. This would go against every reason we started Skittle Lane 10 years ago.

Everyone can be confident that our coffee quality will remain the same, both in store and when you take a bag of beans home. We choose to continue to work with the same farmers and suppliers that we have great relationships with and we have always done.

Over the next few months you will see our prices adjust to these factors and although we always do our best to absorb most price increases, the current condition of the industry means that we will be allocating some pricing modifications in the range of 5%-15%.

Please know, we are not going anywhere, the coffee you have grown to love will continue to stay the same. Please talk with our team or send us an email if you wish to learn more about the supply chain, specialty market conditions, specialty coffee in store, or brewing coffee at home.

We're grateful for all your support! SL x
